PM: Govt to uphold democracy one day after Bersih 2.0

An unprecedented massive gathering of the ordinary folk for the walk of Democracy on July 9 2011, must have prompted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Rajak to mobilise his supporters of 6,000 people in a show of force at an information session at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday, just one day after a crowd of no less than 50,000 people who braved themselves against all intimidations, police tear gas and water cannons near the Merdeka Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.

He said Umno could mobilise its supporters in bigger numbers than the street protesters, but did not wish to do so. We all agree that he has all the power and resources to do that. However, the point is not about his ability to do so. What he is not aware is that the majority of us who walk peacefully on the streets were ordinary folk who came on our own initiative. How many people do you think the opposition parties could mobilise? More than Umno youth or Perkasa? Just take a look how many people Umno and Perkasa brought? We the masses were mostly coming to appeal for a free and fair election on our own expanse simply because we are fed up of the way we have been governed. Malaysians from all walks of life have enough of a regime that used a deceptive electoral system to secure unfair gain. A 54 year-old regime that have over stayed its welcome yet remain in power by fraud.
I have one thought lingering in my mind after the Bersih 2.0 walk, "How I wish Najib could just come and see the Bersih 2.0 walk, he could have gain himself many insights." He appears to have lost touch with what is going on in the hearts and minds of the people.
