What? Annual fee of RM100.00 to treat drug addiction!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Jiwa Baru Expert Meeting 2011,

Just came back from the enchanting Langkawi at 5PM, was about to take a nap; I was thinking about my part in gathering you all to speak out in one voice against the implementation of the requirement of annual fee of RM100.00 for us to treat drug addicts is enough to stop my sleepiness.

I have just modified my previous People’s Power blog to JIwa Baru which you can see have not been active for sometime because I was busy preparing for the FRACGP exams till the beginning of this May.

Many of us including Dato’ Dr. Lim Boon Sho, Dr. Ibrahim Aziz, Dr. S Kanapathy, Dr. Lee Teik Leong, Dr. Loo Cheng Wee, Dr.Liew Jia Shian, Dr. Shih Choon, Dr. of Klinikria, Dr. Farid M, Dr. Jeffrey Nge, Dr. Lokman Mustapha, Dr.FSW, Dr. Tan KL and many others.
Here you are, I managed to get the above names and email addresses on the last minute before we flew home just now.
Hope that every one of you respond and write in, speak your mind, so that we can gather more of our colleagues in this treating community to protect our right.
To call for a meeting of all of us is too difficult.
Let us communicate through this blog to see where we can go as we go along.

Cheers!
Hope to hear from you all.
Warmest regards,
Fort

ANOTHER FEE..........? WHY WE HAVE TO PAY ANNUAL FEE FOR TREATING DRUG ADDICTS.WHAT IS THE DOCTOR'S DEGREE FOR IN VIEW OF SO MANY RESTRICTION IN USING DRUGS??? WHAT IS THE USE OF THE FEES FOR? JUST FOR REGISTRATION?
THERE ARE SO MANY QUESTION MARKS IN THIS FIELD. MORE AND MORE REGULATIONS COME OUT IN THE PURPOSE OF STOP PEOPLE TO BECOME DOCTOR/ GP?

Thank you for taking time to give your comment.
Will forward our objections to Dr Steven Chow and Dato' Lim Boon Sho. They will be having a meeting next week with the enforcement unit.
Hope you can pass the word around to our medical therapeutic community to rise up to object. If we do nothing, they will go ahead to do what they have decided to do. Most countries have made Methadone and Buprenorphine treatment easily available. They are focusing on harm reduction and they think that ACCESSIBILITY is the cornerstone of the treatment in Hong Kong. Will look up the reference later for you.

1.Hong Kong has come out with hassle-free accessibility to Methadone.

2. Please read more about it below

Accessibility is the key to Hong Kong’s methadone treatment approach. In contrast to the
United States and Western Europe, where entrance into methadone treatment frequently requires
protracted paperwork, waiting lists, and referrals, treatment in Hong Kong is generally available
on demand, the same day it is requested. Opiate-dependent people who are under the age of 18
are allowed into the program, but are generally requested to provide evidence of parental consent.7
The fee for treatment has remained unchanged for years at HK$1 (less than US$0.80) per day.
Clinics operate seven days a week and are open early and late to serve the estimated 57 percent of
participants who are employed.8
In contrast to many other countries where methadone program staff are subject to rigid
educational demands and certification requirements, Hong Kong clinics have historically been
supervised by a physician but staffed by Auxiliary Medical Service volunteers whose regular occupations
may range from shoe salesman to housewife to bank clerk. Working for a nominal fee,
these volunteers have enabled clinics to operate at extended hours with minimal expenses.9
